Not a Christian?
At New Life Counseling Center, when you fill out your intake forms, you’ll see a question near the top that reads, “Would you like spirituality incorporated into your counseling” and the options are yes, no and “don’t know.” If you check “no” as a client, then your therapist will simply offer their solid clinical training (without any spirituality woven in) to help you reach your therapy goals. We believe that the client must do the hard work of determining one’s own goals and values, and it is our job to offer healing for any person who comes to us for care - not our job “to preach.”

Biblical Counseling vs. Christian Counseling

Having this question at the top of our intake form is a part of our approach as highly trained therapists who employ Christian Counseling, but not Biblical (or pastoral) Counseling. Biblical Counseling endorses using Scripture as the only authority, and requires the client to already be a professed Christian to receive services. Christian Counseling, on the other hand, while believing in the authority of Scripture, also endorses other sources of wisdom (such as robust psychotherapy education and training) and does not require conversion. New Life only subscribes to Christian Counseling. Furthermore – we believe that Jesus would be in this second camp - hanging out with all sorts of people, from all walks of life.
Please feel free to check that box on the intake form however you see fit, and we’d be happy to serve you as you pursue transformation and healing in your life.
